Mystic

April 23, 2016 by Ryan Harris

Our very first trip with Sally!!!  With Sally a few weeks old, cabin fever setting in, we were itching to get out on the road.  I knew we had a larger trip to Arizona coming up in a month and felt that I needed to practice traveling/packing before setting off for the airport.  I thought Mystic, Connecticut would be an easy trip with Sally.  My number one requirement was that we found a place to stay with a hot tub.  I needed to soak those early motherhood anxieties.  We decided to do just one night away and I picked the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa.  I wanted to stay somewhere that felt EASY and reliable for our first outing.  This was just right.  There was an indoor pool and hot tub, a comfy king-size bed, and the general comfort of a chain hotel.  Sally slept in her carseat next to the hot tub while we relaxed in the bubbles.  Did I mention I was excited about the hot tub?!

The next day we went to the Mystic Aquarium.  The real stars of the aquarium are the beluga whales cruising around.  A common favorite amongst whales, these smiley guys are super curious about visitors and look great in photos.  Turns out Sally slept through almost all of the aquarium visit, but we certainly enjoyed it!  After the aquarium, we did the mandatory stop at Mystic Pizza, which pays homage to the 1980s movie of its namesake.  It was a short trip, but a meaningful one to get the first-time travel jitters out of the way.  Mystic has an awesome seaport that's great for kids to explore in warmer weather that we look forward to doing when Sally gets a bit older and has a better handle on Moby Dick.
